Output Devices are those devices with the help of which we get information from the computer. There are so many output devices that produce output in the form of hard copy or soft copy.
- Monitor
- Printer
- Plotter
- Projector
- Headphones
- Speaker
- Sound card
- Video card
- GPS
MONITOR: The monitor is an output device used to display output on the computer screen. Monitor is also known as VDU(Visual Display Unit). It displays the text, images, videos, audios, etc. The sharpness of the image is determined by the number of pixels on the screen.
Pixels: The smallest unit of an image or smallest dot on the screen is called a pixel. Pixels show the clarity of the image.
Resolution: It is the number of pixels on the screen is called Resolution.
Types of Monitor.
- CRT(Cathode Ray Tube)
- LCD(Liquid Crystal Display/ Thin Film Transistor)
- PLASMA
- LED/OLED(Light Emitting Diode/ Organic Light Emitting Diode)
- AMOLED(Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode)
PRINTER: The printer is also an output device that is used to produce output in the form of hard copy. The printer produces the output on the paper.
The printer is of two types
- Impact Printer
- Non-Impact Printer
IMPACT PRINTER: Impact printer is a printer that prints character by character against ribbon using a hammer, head, and ribbon. These are further classified into the following categories namely Daisy Wheel Printer, Dot Matrix printer, Line Printer, Drum printer, and chain printer.
NON-IMPACT PRINTER: Non-impact printers are those printers that does not make any physical contact with the paper while printing. These printers are further divided into the following categories namely Thermal printers, Laster printers, Inkjet printers, Electromagnetic printers, Electrostatic printers, etc.
DPI: DPI stands for Dot Per Inch. DPI is used for the resolution of the printer.
Units that are used to count the speed of the printer are:
- CPS( Character Per Second)
- LPM(Lines Per Minutes)
- PPM(Pages per minutes)
PLOTTER: A plotter is also an output device that is used to produce an output of high quality. It is used in the engineering departments for the purpose of drawings. It produces accurate graphical outputs including blueprints, banners, and posters.
SPEAKER: Speaker is also an output device that is used to produce sound, music, audio, or voices. Speakers are connected to the computers to allow them to produce their sound. The sound card is required for the purpose of the speaker.
PROJECTOR: Projector is also an output device like LCD or Monitor. Projector is used to represent or display the data on a large screen and it can display the data on any surface. It allows the users to project their output on a large area such as a wall or screen. It is an excellent mode for giving output on the projector or for teaching big groups or big area. It is the best way for giving presentations to a large number of groups.
HEADPHONE: Headphones are also used to produce output. It helps to hear the sound using earbuds by connecting them to computers, laptops, mobile phones, etc. so that others sitting nearby cannot become disturbed. They can be wired or wireless. They can also be connected by Bluetooth.
